Sports Teams

The PE team at Manchester Health Academy provides a wealth of opportunities throughout the course of the academic year.

As well as the curriculum based lessons, every student has the chance to participate in a number of sporting teams for both boys and girls which include:

  • Football
  • Rugby Union
  • Rugby League
  • Netball
  • Rounders
  • Basketball
  • Athletics
  • Cross Country

We also participate in tournaments throughout the year and enter teams for:

  • Badminton
  • Handball
  • Table Tennis
  • Dodgeball
  • Softball
  • Lacross

Team fixtures take place on a regular basis which enables students to perform as both individuals and within a team environment, which is vitally important for their development as young sports people.

The academy works alongside external support such as Manchester United Foundation and RFU. This ensures that the students are exposed to top, professional sports coaching and receive the necessary support to develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and techniques with their chosen sports of interest.

A new project which was set up quite recently was the Coaching Team scheme where by 6th form students were developed into coaches. The students will be up-skilled to enable them to engage with local primary schools and other young people in the community. Students take part in 8 workshops throughout the year, each focussing on a different aspect of coaching, but always ensuring the focus is on developing FUNdamentals of our primary school pupils we work with.
