My first week as Acting Principal of Manchester Health Academy has been brilliant. I have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming all our students and staff back to the Academy for the start of what promises to be another amazing year. I thank parents and carers in having the students all turned out so smartly, very much appreciated.
Over the summer, the expansion project has developed at a pace, with a new ICT room and five new classrooms being built, the new Community Facility entrance complete and serving temporarily as the main entrance, and the new sports pitches almost complete.
I hope that everyone is refreshed from the summer break and raring to go, as we have a busy time ahead.
This year will be especially important for our Year 11 students who will be taking their GCSE exams. Most subjects will be assessed under the new grade 1 – 9 framework, which is based predominantly on exams rather than coursework. I can’t stress enough how important working hard will be for these students – this will be one of the most decisive years for each student in terms of their future pathways, and it will take commitment and resilience from students, their families and school staff throughout the year for each student to reach their potential. Myself and my team are ready to support students to achieve the very best that they can, and to help them secure their next step in education or employment.
Year 10 students will also start working in earnest towards their GCSEs, while Year 8 students will start thinking about their future pathways. Sixth Form students will be working hard towards their BTEC Extended diplomas and planning their next moves in education or employment.
Something that I am passionate about is the role that parents and carers play in the success of their children – a happy journey through secondary school is underpinned by parental engagement with your child’s education, and this can have a real impact on achievement. Take a look at our new Support for Parents and Carers webpage for suggestions of how you can support your child to succeed.
As well as getting settled into this academic year, I am already looking forward to meeting some of our future students and their families at our Open Evening soon. We will be holding our Open Evening on Thursday 21st September 2017 from 5.30pm – 8pm. This will be for both the main Academy and the Sixth Form.
