Year 7 Rugby Union Team Crowned Champions

Our Year 7 Rugby Union team has had an amazing first season, achieving a record points score win for the Academy, finishing the season unbeaten and crowned as local schools champions.

The Year 7 team won their first competitive game against St Paul’s High School 35 to 0. They went on to play in the Manchester Schools rugby competition at Burnage RFC where they won all the games including a 25 to 0 against local rivals Newell Green, and schools from Stockport, Wigan and Rochdale. Recently they played Broughton Park club team and achieved a 40 to 30 victory.  Their final game of the season, played during the recent ice storm, saw the players showing grit and resilience to take a decisive victory over Manchester Enterprise Academy of 65 to 5.

The team celebrated the season at half time of the Sale Sharks and Bath game on May 6th with a walk around the stadium with the trophy.

Mr Brown, Head of PE, commented, “I am delighted with the boys start to playing competitive rugby and it has been an amazing way for the boys to challenge their aggression in a positive way”.
