Don’t fancy a class, then how about joining the MHA Gym? Good cardio and weight equipment available, memberships to suit everybody, from pay as you go to a 12 month contract. We even host a Ladies Night on Tuesdays and Thursday where female users receive a special discounted price for using the gym. Jimmy says “A lot of people in the New Year make the resolution to get fit or in shape and then do nothing about it because they are afraid to visit local gyms that can be male dominated or intimidating. Our gym at the Health Academy has a very relaxed, laid back environment and the members of staff are approachable and friendly, always willing to give advice or help start you out with a plan of action. The gym is also an excellent social environment and a good way to meet new people, so new members will never feel isolated.”
And once you’ve given your body a real good workout why not let Hayley, our trained massage therapist, give you a full body massage to relax and remove all those minor aches and pains so you are ready to go for your next fitness session! Hayley says “Massage after exercise is a fantastic way to relieve tension in your muscles and relax. It can help to relieve stress, after a long day at the office, and put you a good mood for the rest of the day. We offer Swedish and Sports massage at extremely affordable prices so we can cater for all your needs.”

…Ballroom & Latin Dance lessons come to the Manchester Health Academy!
In partnership with the Stockport Dance Centre, the Community Sports Facility, at the newly opened Manchester Health Academy, will be hosting ballroom and Latin dance lessons starting on Wednesday 7th October 2009, 8.30pm to 10pm.
The group classes are extremely popular and a very cost effective way to learn. Every student who attends gets the chance to learn steps, lead, follow and learn the basic technique and style. Partners are regularly changed so that everyone dances as much as possible. The lessons are led by Paul Duffy, from the Stockport Dance Centre, who has a wealth of experience having taught all over the UK and the US – opening numerous successful dance schools along the way. The lessons cover a variety of dances from Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango to Paso Doble and Mambo. Paul says “The philosophy of the lessons is to keep the teaching simple, fun and flexible. All of our tutors are fully qualified with the UKA. Simply turn up, no stressful tests, just come and have a dance whenever you like. It will make you feel great!”
The dance lessons are part of the revamped Community Facilities based at the newly opened school. Paul Barrett, Community Sports Development Manager comments “The link up with the Stockport Dance Centre is very exciting. The Community lessons are part of a wider project whereby students and staff at the school will receive tuition; regular tea dances will be held and a MHA Strictly Come Dancing event will take place for the students to showcase their new found skills. With a new series of Strictly Come Dancing due on our screens, I can imagine that the course will be very successful and a great way to have fun, meet new people and stay fit.”
The cost per person for a lesson is £6. However, those Wythenshawe residents living in a M22/M23 postcode can access the lessons for only £5 per week.
