Teaching Posts for September 2012
Curriculum Leader of English - Full time
The Manchester Health Academy is an 11-18 mainstream secondary school which opened in September 2009 and is sponsored by the Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, with Manchester City Council and The Manchester College as co-sponsors. Our vision is to combine education and health in winning the hearts and minds of children and young people to ensure educational transformation and ensure we become the local secondary provider of choice and hub of the community.
In September 2010 we moved into our new £20 million state of the art building. Due to the increasingly popularity of the Academy with our parents and carers we are now oversubscribed and have a waiting list for our incoming year 7 for September 2012. We have achieved significant improvements from the predecessor school’s position of least popular secondary school in Manchester [24th out of 24] to the Academy’s current position within the top 10 most popular schools in the city. Our excellent recruitment of students means we will have full student year groups at KS3 and a growing student population at KS4 and as result need to recruit new staff for September 2012.
OFSTED recently inspected the Academy in January 2012 and reported that "the overall effectiveness of the Academy is securely satisfactory and improving strongly. This represents significant improvement from the serious weaknesses of the predecessor school”. Inspectors also reported that “the leadership of the Academy is good” and:
“staff are led by a highly effective Principal and very capable team of senior and middle leaders”
“staff are hardworking and talented”
“students are increasingly ambitious and responsive”
“governance is astute and influential with the strong support of the main and co sponsors”
“attainment is rising and students’ overall achievement is satisfactory and improving securely and quickly”
“the sixth form is good. It is a niche provision that effectively meets students’ needs”
“there is some outstanding teaching and much good practice”
“behaviour and safety are improving as a result of effective systems and structures and major changes in the atmosphere and ethos in the academy. Students’ attendance is also rising"
The Academy has enjoyed great success in its first two years with 41% of our students achieving 5GCSEs at A*-C including English and mathematics in 2011 – a 15% increase on the results achieved in 2009 under the predecessor school. 52% of our students achieved grade C or above in English and 51% achieved C or above in mathematics in 2011. This year, 50% of our current year 11 have already achieved grade C or better in English and we are confident that we will continue build on this success and achieve our academy target of 55% 5 A*-C including English and maths in 2012.
As a member of the academy teaching staff you will be tasked with delivering high quality teaching and learning to enable all our students achieve their challenging targets. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a member of a highly committed and innovative team delivering the curriculum in a new learning environment where collaboration and team work is essential. We are looking for enthusiastic, committed, qualified teachers who relish a challenge and will go the extra mile. You should be passionate about your subject and be capable of inspiring students and generating energy and enthusiasm for learning. You will need to have the skills and commitment to work as an effective team player, as well as a good sense of humour. In return we will promise you a stimulating, supportive and rewarding working environment, where all staff are valued and encouraged to participate in the development of the Academy vision and strategy.
