National Careers Week 2019 activities included

  • Door signs – All staff in the academy were asked to complete a door sign outlining their previous jobs and the skills they developed in each role. This was a really powerful message to the students when they read the wide variety of roles and how each role has allowed us to develop employability skills.
  • Lessons - For each teaching group during the week staff were asked to dedicate time on one of their lessons to discuss careers which are linked to their subject.
  • Registration on Monday morning – Years 7-10 – A tutor time presentation was provided for tutors to share with students on the Monday morning to set the tone and prompt thinking for the week.
  • Aspire to Be – There were extra Aspire to Be sessions during the week to reflect the NCW theme. For the first time, we put on additional KS3 Aspire to Be sessions.
  • Careers Drop In – A Careers Helpdesk was held in the Dining Room for both KS3 and 4 lunchtime during the week. They were staffed by Lisa Hutchinson, our Careers Advisor and a number of Student Careers Ambassadors. There was the opportunity for students to use a Careers online programme to find out more about potential careers.
  • Assemblies – There were National Careers Week assemblies for each year group.
  • National Careers Week closing event – As a result of our engagement with National Careers Week, we were invited to the closing event for the Manchester area. We took 20 Year 9 and Year 10 students to the event.
