Our courses are of a practical nature which allow for placements, trips and visits supplement students chosen courses.
The health courses have placements in hospitals, nurseries, schools and care homes.
The sports courses are very practical and students study units which are based on practical participation. The physiology of fitness investigates how the body reacts to exercise while participation in an expedition in the Lake District is also part of the course requirements.
Health and Sports Science really matter to us at Manchester Health Academy and we use our specialism to build self esteem, improve teaching and learning and to develop life long learning opportunities for our students, parents and the community.
Our students will gain knowledge and understanding in the health issues through our tutorial system and will engage in our well established “Health Days” in order to raise aspiration and support personal growth and development.
In Sports Science we aim to engage and capture the imagination of students in the Academy. We have invested in state-of-the-art equipment, such as heart rate monitors and WATT bikes which allow pupils to take part in cycle races individually or in teams whilst still in the classroom. We also have a “Fitness Battery” of ten fitness challenges that allow us to compare the fitness of students within the Academy. Through links with Manchester United Foundation we are able to create a culture of aspiration and help inspire students to make positive choices regarding their health, fitness and lifestyle.
Our talented staff are committed to supporting our students to achieve their very best. They are well qualified, continually developing professionally and work as members of a very strong team. Year leaders and learning support assistants work with a wide range of students to improve their confidence, motivation and ability to develop strategies to overcome barriers for learning.
