BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport

Equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

Exam Board: Edexcel/Pearson

Entry Requirements:

You will need a minimum of grade 4’s in English and Maths and a GCSE grade C in Physical Education or Distinction* – Pass in BTEC Level 2 Award in Sport.

What will I study?

A detailed and varied insight into the sports industry.  The course will give you a broad overview of the different aspects of Sport.  Students will study 4 core units and 3 additional units.

Core units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Physiology of Fitness
  • Assessing Risk
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

3 additional units will be selected to suit the students on the course and the expertise of the staff, these may be any 3 from the following:

  • Fitness Training Programming
  • Sports Coaching
  • Practical Individual or Team Sport
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Sports Leadership
  • Sports Injuries
  • Work Experience in Sport
  • Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through controlled coursework assignments, with one additional external exam.

What could I do next?

Possible careers could include PE Teaching, Personal Trainer, Sports Coaching, Physiotherapist, Sports Umpiring, Sports Psychologist, Sports Analyst, Sport Scientist, Sports Journalist, Working with a National Governing Body, Leisure Site Manager, Sports Leadership Co-ordinator.

Additional Optional Qualifications

You can choose to study Level 1 and 2 FA Coaching Award and the Active IQ Fitness Award.  We also offer Maths and English GCSE re-sits and qualification resit support.
