Faculty of Art and Design Curriculum Intent

The Faculty of Art and Design (Art, Design Technology, Graphic Design, Construction and Photography) embody some of the highest forms of human creativity including; play, choice, failure and reflection. It is with these essential creative skills students area able to apply themselves within a different academic environment.

A high-quality creative education will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment invent and create their own works of art and design within and beyond the classroom.

The curriculum allows ALL students regardless of circumstances to access the course with confidence and individual flare. The sequencing of learning develops strategically through KS3 to KS4 and the academy values are embedded throughout.

As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. Students should know how the range of subjects are inextricably linked and how they each reflect upon and shape our history. The subjects should contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

The delivery of contemporary and historical artistic references the students will expand upon their spiritual, cultural, moral and social awareness in abundance.
