Academies are designed to raise expectations and standards of achievement, and to help young people progress into further education or secure good employment opportunities. At the Manchester Health Academy (MHA) in Wythenshawe, that is exactly what we aim to do.
Opening in September 2009, MHA will replace the current Brookway High School in Baguley, Wythenshawe, and a brand new £19 million building will be ready for all students to move into in September 2010. We will provide 600 places for 11-16 year olds, with an additional 120 post-16 places.
Led by Principal Barry Burke and with sponsorship from Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and co-sponsorship from Manchester City Council and The Manchester College, we will provide an entirely new and transformational experience for young people in the Wythenshawe area, offering opportunities for all.
Our aim is to promote ‘Learning for a healthy future’ and we will provide state-of-the-art facilities, technology and resources in an impressive new building. We will also offer great teachers, superb levels of support and the best opportunities for MHA students.
In addition, MHA will offer a top quality library, a specialist health and sports centre and a safe and supportive environment for all children, where they will have genuine opportunities to make the most of the future, whatever their talents.
Education in Wythenshawe is set to improve dramatically, and we are delighted to be at the centre of it. Whether you are a pupil, parent, member of the community, or someone who wants to join the staff at MHA, we hope you will find this website useful and look forward to working with you in the future.
